Recommendations to maximize enjoyment and minimize frustration while playing online poker at NLOP

We inevitably get complaints from players who experience a lag, or poor connection, while playing online poker on our site. We’ll be the first to admit that yes, in some cases this can be caused by 3rd party ads. These ads can sometimes consume an inordinate amount of bandwidth which can interfere with gameplay. We do our best to police against these offenders but the unfortunate reality is that sometimes tracking down a problematic ad is like finding a needle in a haystack. Here’s where some  of you like to chime in with comments like, “Your site would be so much better if you turned off the ads!”. If only it were that easy…

Our Model

You see, we aren’t your typical real-money online poker site. We don’t take deposits so you won’t find any gambling on our site. We also aren’t your typical social online poker platform. Those sites make their money selling you worthless virtual currency while giving you zero opportunity to win anything of value in return.

What we offer is a FREE online poker network with  the opportunity to compete to win real cash and prizes. How do we fund these cash tournaments if we aren’t taking your money? Well, it’s via sponsorships from our advertisers. So if we eliminate or cut back on the ads, then we’d have to eliminate or cut back on our prize pool. And how much would you still enjoy our site if we took away the prizes?  We like to think it’s what makes us unique and helps  differentiate us from all the other poker sites. But we’ve digressed…

Minimum System Requirements and Optimal System Configuration

Now that you hopefully have a better understanding of why the ads are necessary, here’s a few steps you can take to improve your experience:

  1. Upgrade to a VIP Platinum Membership

Ok, this sounds like a shameless plug but it’s honestly the BEST and EASIEST way to ensure an optimal poker experience on our site. In addition to the regular VIP perks (10K Tokens per month, unlimited Level 3 invitations, Custom Avatars, Exclusive Promo Codes, Token gifting), you ALSO get ad-free play! This is the #1 recommended solution for players struggling with connection issues while using a modern computer configuration. This leads to our next point…

  1. Ensure that your desktop or laptop was born this decade

Please don’t point the finger at us if you’re still using Windows XP and trying to play on NLOP using Internet Explorer 6! For PC and Mac users, we highly recommend that you use the Google Chrome browser for the best poker experience. If you’re on a PC, make sure you’re using Windows 10 or Windows 8. Even Windows 7 will work, but if you’re still on Windows Vista or Windows XP, it’s time for an upgrade.

  1. Try a different version of our app

If you’re playing our National League of Poker Facebook App and having issues with your connection, we recommend giving our standalone web browser app a try from http://play.nlop.com/signin. When playing from this site on a mobile device, we advise playing from a desktop or laptop instead when possible (and see #2 above).

If you have an iPad accessible and not a laptop or desktop, try out our new iPad app, Token Poker, now available in the App Store. Some limitations exist as this app is still in the early stages of development, but if you’re having connection problems, this should be an improvement for you.

If you’re on a PC and the browser app isn’t performing well, we recommend trying the download app instead. It’s compatible with Windows 7 and above. Click here to download.

  1. Check your internet connection

If you’re playing from a dial-up modem or 2G cellular connection, chances are our site won’t work very well. We recommend a download speed of at least 5 Mbps. You can check your internet speed by clicking here.

  1. Hang tight…

We know that for many players, desktops are ancient history. Your mobile phone is not only your go-to device but also your gaming device of choice. We’re working diligently to develop native mobile apps to accommodate all Android and iOS players. Stay tuned while we work out the kinks in our iPad app (see #3 above). We hope to have an amazing mobile offering for all of you to enjoy sometime in early 2017.
