If you love Texas Hold’em but want a twist that brings bigger hands and more action, you should consider playing a game of Omaha poker. This exciting poker variant is gaining popularity at NLOP, and here’s everything you need to know to jump in and start winning!
How an Omaha Hand Works
When the game starts, every player is dealt 4 hole cards to play with. Different than Texas Hold’em that only deals players 2 hole cards. You then play poker as usual: flop, turn, river. After the hand, players reveal their cards choosing their highest 2 of the 4 hole cards and best 3 community cards to play. The player with the best 5-card hand wins the pot.
The key to Omaha is to play with your 2 best cards out of the 4 hole cards that you have been dealt. When playing Omaha, bigger hands such as flushes, full houses, and straights are more common because you’re playing with more cards. It might seem easy to win when you have higher chances playing with 4 hole cards, but selecting the two cards you think are best is key to winning in this strategic game.
NLOP offers two daily Omaha games that are great for people of all levels to play in:
