National League of Poker, NLOP, and parent company Cafrino, have decided to raise money for breast cancer awareness this year. With October being breast cancer awareness month, this is the perfect time to acknowledge the Susan G. Komen organization. This organization has invested nearly $1.1 billion in breast cancer research since 1982! Their community has brought 30 million people together in awareness, discussion and donations. Over 20 thousand patients have received financial assistance and support from the Komen organization. NLOP asks that our players make a tax deductible donation of any size if they are able, and/or to share this message to help to spread awareness.

Warning Signs

We want to share some of the warning signs of breast cancer in both women and men. Not all of these signs mean that someone has cancer, but it is always best to be checked by your doctor and make sure. Early detection can be the best prevention. Signs in women include:

  • a lump, hard knot or thickening inside the breast or underarm area
  • Swelling, warmth, redness or darkening of the breast
  • Change in the size or shape of the breast
  • Dimpling or puckering of the skin
  • Itchy, scaly sore or rash on the nipple
  • Pulling in of your nipple or other parts of the breast
  • Nipple discharge that starts suddenly
  • New pain in one spot that does not go away.

In the U.S, less than one percent of breast cancer occurs in men. There are still some warning signs that men need to watch out for. The most common sign for men is a painless lump or thickening of the breast of the underarm area. All of the above signs can occur as well.  A healthy diet and exercise can help offset risk factors for men, and allow for easier detection.

NLOP understands that times have been tough. Any donation of any size is amazing. Also, simply sharing information on breast cancer, or sharing personal experiences and stories are great for awareness and can help many people. NLOP thanks you for your time and consideration, and a huge thanks to Susan G. Komen organization for all that they do.
